Description & history
Imagine this brooch on the lapel of a black blazer for an evening, or in the center of a jacket collar for an elegant lunch — at 5.5 cm in diameter, it does not go unnoticed, it makes a statement. Not with arrogance, but with that quiet confidence that only true couture pieces can give.
This brooch is a medal, in the literal sense - its openwork circular format, its golden granulation ornaments, its baroque scrolls and its set pearls evoke the large brooches of 19th century jewelers, royal adornments, house insignia. The intertwined CD monogram is at the center, treated in a baroque ornamental language which combines the curves of the letters with the arabesques of golden metal to form a composition of rare richness and balance.
The 12 set white pearls — one on each cardinal point of the exterior frame, the others punctuating the interior scrolls — are the touch of softness that tempers the opulence of the gold. Gold and white, metal and mother-of-pearl: it is the most timeless combination of couture jewelry, the one that Dior has used in its creations since the beginning of the 1950s, notably with the pearls that the house has integrated into almost all of its jewelry collections produced with Henkel & Grosse in Pforzheim.
How to wear it? On a black or navy blazer, on the left lapel — this is the classic position, the one that was in vogue in the 80s when this brooch was created, and which is making a comeback today. On a tweed jacket clear, it brings color and volume. On a silk scarf or a shawl to hold it with elegance in the evening. On a black leather bag or a canvas tote for a touch of everyday couture. And for the most daring, neckline center on a black dress — like the actresses of the 50s who wore their Dior brooches on their evening dresses.
In very good general condition, the plating is intact and the pearls are in place. Dior hallmark engraved on the back. Sold with Rarr Vintage box — an exceptional baroque Dior brooch, to wear for special occasions as well as to elevate everyday life.
