This vintage Christian Dior brooch is a couture jewellery piece produced by the Henkel & Grosse workshops in Pforzheim — Dior’s exclusive partner for the manufacture of its jewellery for nearly 50 years, from 1955 to 2005. Recognised as Europe’s finest gold-plated metal craftsmen, they specialised precisely in this type of piece: sculptural gold-tone metal jewellery with complex three-dimensional forms, whose expertise rivalled that of high jewellery. The braided rope motif — a technique involving twisting and soldering metal wires to create a rope effect — is one of their most distinctive signatures, found on the most sought-after Dior brooches, necklaces and bracelets on the vintage market.

What sets this piece apart from other Dior brooches is its two-tier architecture: at the top, an oval medallion closed with a golden braided rope knot — loop and volume — from which hang two tassels of golden chain fringe, light and movable.
