Bamboo is one of Gucci's oldest and most recognized signatures. Born in 1947 from a wartime constraint — leather was lacking, bamboo was available — the heated and curved bamboo clasp became one of the most copied and least comparable details of Italian leather goods. On this Bamboo Shopper XL from the 2000s, the bamboo signature appears on the imposing silver hardware: rings, loops and metal details where the plant material appears in contrast. The wide braided leather handles ensure comfortable shoulder carrying even when loaded - a detail that distinguishes this model from the Bamboo with thin handles. The slate blue grained leather, in its slightly natural aged effect, gives the piece a depth and character that classic colors cannot offer.
