The Noé was created in 1932, designed for a Champagne producer looking for a bag capable of carrying five bottles of champagne. The bucket shape — round base, straight sides that flare slightly, opening tightened with a drawstring — became an archetype. Almost a hundred years later, the Noé remains one of Louis Vuitton’s most instantly recognisable models, and one of the easiest to wear every day.
This example is in black Épi leather, the parallel-ribbed leather introduced by Louis Vuitton in the early 1980s. The Épi grain is achieved through a specific treatment that gives the leather a linear texture, increased scratch resistance and some water resistance. In black, it creates an understated, structured and versatile bag, equally suited to weekdays and weekends, summer and winter. Here, the leather is in good condition and the texture is well preserved, with slight signs of previous use and discreet rubbing on the corners and top of the bag.
The capacity is generous for an everyday bag: 27 × 32 × 19 cm, enough to hold an iPad tablet, cosmetic bag, continental wallet, phone, paperback book and glasses case. The single Épi leather strap can be worn on the shoulder and adjusted in length. The leather drawstring closes the opening, threaded through gold-tone brass eyelets. The hardware is in good condition with a light patina, consistent with the age of the piece.
Good overall condition, grade B — this example, dated 1996 and made in France, has retained a lovely appearance. The suede-like lining is in good condition. The leather drawstring, strap and base of the bag are in good condition, with signs of previous use. The bag will be supplied with a RARR Vintage dust bag and a RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
