The name Nike is inspired by the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, a winged goddess capable of moving at great speed, whose most famous representation, a statue displayed in the Louvre, is the Winged Victory of Samothrace. The brand achieved its renown thanks to a simple and instantly recognizable logo: the Swoosh, an inverted, horizontal checkmark; it was created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 as a stylized representation of the goddess's wing.
