In jewellery, baroque is first and foremost a way of refusing emptiness. In the 17th and 18th centuries, European adornments covered the surface: intricate settings, scrolls, overflowing stone settings, irregularly shaped stones placed like happy accidents. This necklace adopts that vocabulary — not by copying it, but by retaining its spirit: that of a piece of jewellery unafraid to take up space.

The cabochons take centre stage. Cut into smooth domes rather than facets — the old cut, predating the modern brilliant cut — they come in warm, muted cream and amber tones. It is a subtler choice than vivid stones: light does not bounce off them, it moves through the material. Around them, the gold settings unfold into ornamentation, while the layered-chain construction gives the necklace real depth, a thickness that a single strand would not have.

Despite this density, the piece remains surprisingly wearable. The balance is there: the necklace sits well on the neckline without tipping or pulling. Its adjustable length, from 37 to 46 cm, allows it to be worn close to the neck for a more fitted effect, or left to fall lower to open up the line. It is jewellery for an evening, an event, an opera — the kind that carries a plain outfit on its own.
