Versace never practised understatement. Where other Italian houses cultivated discretion, Gianni Versace built his on unapologetic excess: gold, baroque, mythology, motifs that saturate the surface. The 1990s were the height of this aesthetic, that of models in gold dresses and jewellery visible from the other end of the room. This necklace fully belongs to that period.

The motif leaves no room for ambiguity: it is a crown. Not an allusion, not a reinterpreted symbol — an ornate crown, set with crystals along its entire height, suspended as a pendant. Royal imagery is an integral part of the house's lexicon, alongside Medusa and the Greek key, and is used here quite literally. The gold-plated metal, in a bright tone, and the transparent stones that catch the light with every movement complete the statement.

The box chain provides the necessary counterpoint. Fluid, supple and resolutely clean-lined, it leaves all the space to the pendant instead of competing with it. Its length, adjustable from 78 to 83 cm thanks to an extension chain, makes it a long necklace: worn alone, it falls over the bust and stands on its own; layered with shorter chains, it structures a stack. It is an evening piece, but also works in contrast over a plain jumper — one of the best ways to wear this type of jewellery.

Good vintage condition, grade B — minimal signs of wear, all crystals in place, functional clasp, and no oxidation marks: the plating has remained bright more than thirty years on. No major flaws to report, with the whole piece documented in photos. Sold with its pouch and RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
