Gucci was a leather goods house long before it became a watchmaker. It was only in the 1970s that the Florentine brand entered watchmaking, through a licensing agreement with Swiss manufacturer Severin Montres — a company it would eventually acquire in 1997. From this meeting of Swiss expertise and Italian sense of form came watches that never quite chose between jewellery and instrument: slim cases, bangle bracelets and lines that prioritise style.

The 1400L is a fine example. The round case is not attached to the bracelet: it is integrated into it, framed by two rounded end pieces that extend the bangle seamlessly. From a distance, it looks like a steel bracelet; only on closer inspection does the dial appear. The latter is deliberately understated — a silver-tone background with no hour markers, where only the Gucci logo and Swiss inscription punctuate the surface, and two gold hands provide the ensemble’s only contrast.

The stainless steel is polished throughout, the side crown is signed, and the watch is water-resistant to 3 ATM. The bangle bracelet, secured with a hinged clasp, fits wrists up to 17.5 cm. It can be worn alone or stacked with other bracelets, and pairs equally well with silver and gold thanks to its gold hands. Serial number 0272023.

Good overall condition — the watch shows signs of previous use and micro-scratches on the case and bracelet, consistent with a worn piece and documented in photos. The dial is clean and the movement is functional. No major flaws to report. Sold with its box, protective cushion and RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
