The Jackie is one of those bags that took the name of the woman who carried it. Launched by Gucci in the 1960s under another name, it became “Jackie” in the public’s mind after being repeatedly seen on the arm of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who had made it her everyday bag. The house eventually endorsed the usage. It is a rare reversal: it was not the brand that named the object, but the object that inherited a first name.

The silhouette has not changed since. A soft crescent shape that hugs the side, an adjustable handle worn on the shoulder, and above all this piston clasp — the sliding mechanism that opens with a press of the thumb, which has become the model’s signature. It is a bag that closes and opens in one movement, with no zip or buckle to undo.

This version, dating from the early 2000s, combines GG monogram jacquard canvas with smooth black leather details: the handle, upper trims and reinforced lower corners. The monogram is not printed but woven into the fabric itself, giving it a more matte, textile finish than coated canvases. The hardware, in a more muted champagne tone than classic gold, complements the beige canvas. Inside, there is a black twill canvas lining and a zipped pocket. Made in Italy, serial number 001-4075-17**.

Good overall condition, grade B — clean, stain-free canvas; clean corners in good condition; leather handle showing light signs of use with no flaws; interior in good condition with clean twill canvas and a clean zipped pocket. No major flaws to report, all documented in the photos. Sold with its original Gucci dust bag and RARR Vintage certificate of authenticity.
