Description & history
Touch this bag before you look at it — it's the right way to encounter nappa intrecciato. The extreme softness of the hand-woven lambskin, the interwoven strips which form a regular and supple relief at the same time: this is Bottega Veneta luxury. Not a logo. Just the bag, signed by the way it is made.
Bottega Veneta was founded in 1966 in Vicenza, in the Veneto region of Italy. Its sewing machines, designed for ready-to-wear, cannot work with the thick leathers usually used in leather goods — the artisans then developed an ingenious solution: cutting the leather into thin strips (the fettucce), and interweave them by hand to create a solid, flexible and recognizable structure. They call this technique "intrecciato" — from the Italian intrecciare, intermingle. What was a technical constraint has become the most iconic signature of discreet global luxury. In 1978, Andy Warhol signed a memorable advertising campaign for the house under the slogan "When your own initials are enough" — a declaration of principle that sums it all up.
This mini bag in black intrecciato nappa is a perfect demonstration of the house's know-how in its purest version - woven lamb nappa, matte black jewelry (no gold, no chrome, just black metal that disappears into the leather), 114 cm adjustable matte black chain.
