Description & history

Imagine this necklace worn on a simple white shirt or a black cashmere sweater - the four letters D, I, O, R in golden charms hanging together, the O which sparkles gently with its transparent rhinestones: it is both a jewel and a statement, a way of carrying the name of the house with a casualness that only belongs to vintage.

This D.I.O.R. necklace letters is part of an iconic series created by the house of Christian Dior in the late 1980s and early 1990s — pieces of couture jewelry that are increasingly difficult to find today, and whose value on the vintage market continues to increase. Their principle is simple and ingenious: the four letters of the name of the house, available in individual charms and grouped into a single pendant, with the O set with a pavé of transparent rhinestones for a touch of shine which breaks the golden sobriety of the other letters.

This design is so strong that Dior reissued it under the collection name Dio(r)evolution, still in the house's catalog today — with exactly the same concept: letters D, I, O, R in golden charms and the O set with sparkling crystals. Wearing the vintage version means wearing the original of what has become a signature piece of the house over several decades. At 49 cm, this necklace falls perfectly at the neckline — long enough to be visible on a round neckline or V-neck, not so long that it looks sloppy.

In very good general condition, the gold plating is uniform and the rhinestones on the O are intact. No major defects to report. The Dior hallmark charm is present at the clasp. Sold with Rarr Vintage box — an archive Dior piece at the crossroads of vintage and contemporary, for those who know.
