Description & history

A vintage Céline necklace circa 1960s-1970s in gold-plated medallion links with geometric cutouts — the modernist and sculptural spirit of sixties Paris in a piece of haute couture costume jewelry. Rare, immediately graphic, impossible to find today.

Céline was founded in 1945 by Céline Vipiana as a children's shoe house, before establishing itself in the 1960s and 1970s as a full-fledged Parisian luxury ready-to-wear and accessories house — well before the Phoebe Philo era and its iconic minimalism. During this period, the house produced costume jewelry in gold metal with resolutely geometric and modernist shapes, in the spirit of the times of a Paris influenced by Op Art, Courrèges and Pierre Cardin. This necklace is a perfect example: its repeated medallion links with crescent cutouts create a strong visual rhythm, a sculptural silhouette that adorns the neckline like a designer piece of jewelry in its own right.

This copy is in good vintage condition. The polished gold finish is generally well preserved — a few areas show slight wear to the plating and signs of use inside the links, visible in the photos. The adjustable length from 32 to 41 cm via a hook clasp allows it to be worn around the neck or as a looser necklace. Sold with Rarr Vintage pouch.
