Moroccan Berber rugs showcase the excellence of Moroccan craftsmanship. They are woven on traditional wooden looms in Morocco’s mountainous regions (the High Atlas or Middle Atlas, depending on the type of rug) by Berber women working at home or together in cooperatives in remote mountain villages.

All Berber rugs are made from sheep’s wool and hand-knotted. Making a Berber rug takes between 4 and 8 weeks, depending on its size and the complexity of its patterns.

M’Rirt Berber rugs (also known as Beni M’Rirt rugs) are made in the Beni Mellal–Khénifra region of the Middle Atlas, in central Morocco. They are the most prestigious, high-end Moroccan Berber rugs. Their weave is particularly tight, making the rugs denser and requiring more wool. Once woven, M’Rirt rugs are washed and rubbed, giving their wool a silky, velvety appearance. They are very thick and soft, with patterns similar to those of Beni Ouarain rugs. Made from natural materials, they are durable pieces: choose a Berber rug and you can keep it for years!
