Vitamin B9 (or folate) is an essential nutrient for all women planning a pregnancy and throughout pregnancy. It plays a key role in foetal development and contributes to a healthy pregnancy.



Prevention of neural tube defects. Vitamin B9 is essential from the very start of pregnancy, and even before, as it participates in the closure of the baby's neural tube, which forms the brain and spinal cord. Sufficient intake significantly reduces the risk of birth defects such as spina bifida.



Supports a healthy pregnancy. Vitamin B9 contributes to red blood cell formation, cell development, placenta formation, supports energy-yielding metabolism and helps reduce fatigue.

Inadequate folate status during pregnancy has been associated with low birth weight, preterm birth and foetal growth restriction.



An intake of 400 µg of vitamin B9 is recommended from the pre-conception stage and throughout pregnancy. This is the exact dose contained in one Vanifique snack.
